Below is our recommended Fall packing list for weekend camp. Note that certain camps will have different requirements so note any camp specific info.
Backpack to carry your belongings - line the inside with a garbage bag so if backpack soaks through in wet weather, inside contents is still dry
Clothing: (including what you wear to camp)
Scouts Canada Cub Uniform (for travel)
1x Sweater or fleece jacket/shirt
1x set of Night clothes: pyjamas or track pants, warm socks, toque, hoodie. Sleepwear is only worn for sleeping! It stays in your sleeping bag during the day where it stays dry.
2-3x wool, fleece, or other synthetic socks
2-3x pairs of underwear
2x t-shirts (1 short/1 long - option for one extra)
1x pair thermal underwear
1x pair mittens or gloves - recommend ones that stay warm while wet, quick-drying or waterproof
2x toques (1 for sleeping/1 for the day)
2x pair of pants
1x pair Hiking shoes or good footwear for hiking - waterproof ones recommended
1x set rain jacket and rain/waterproof pants
Sunglasses & or hat with brim
garbage bag to keep gear dry
bag for wet and dirty gear (ideally waterproof - extra garbage bag works)
Sleeping:
Sleeping bag - sized appropriately and light enough for backpacking - too large sleeping bag requires more energy to heat up. -10C or better rated sleeping bag is recommended for fall camping.
Sleeping pad, mat, or Thermarest
Small pillow (optional) - clothes stuffed into sleeping bag sack can also work
Small comfort object (stuffy)
Tips: sleeping mat/bag should be inside or strapped securely/tightly to the backpack and not hanging loose. Combined backpack weight should be light enough to be carried by the cub for a 1km hike. Have your cub practice setting up their sleeping mat/pad (i.e. inflating/unfolding) and packing it up beforehand.
Hygiene:
Toiletry kit in a zip lock or kit bag:
Tooth brush & toothpaste
Face cloth & soap
Lip Balm
Sunscreen
Hand sanitizer
Insect repellent
Toilet paper (kept in a ziplock bag)
Small Towel
Any medications (ensure leader is aware and informed of where they are packed)
Eating: (note: the camp info will indicate if mug/mess kit is required)
Mug
Mess Kit - cutlery, plate, and/or bowl
Other:
Headlamp with fresh batteries and/or spare batteries (flashlight is less ideal)
Campfire Blanket
Day pack
Book or other quiet activity - nothing that is expensive or significant value to your child as sometimes things do get misplaced and left behind
Rain boots - if rainy weather forecasted
Do not bring:
Electronic games
Music players
Knives
Matches
• Put your NAME on ALL your possessions
• If you can’t afford to lose it, don’t bring it to camp!
