Scouts - winter camp

Post date: Jan 13, 2014 5:31:4 AM

Hello Scout families.

Winter camp is less than 2 weeks away! Have we mentioned how awesome this camp is?? My son, David says, “The winter camp is one of the greatest experience your child will have, we strongly urge you to consider going to this camp. They will be able to go snow-shoeing, build snow forts and igloos.” The youth and leaders at Dunbar Scouts have all the needed skills and equipment to make this a fun, safe experience. We heartily encourage everyone (including first years!) to attend.

Cost is only $30 each thanks to financial support from our group committee. You can bring a cheque payable to 25th Dunbar Scouts on Monday. So far, We have 8 scouts + 4 leaders attending. We will be camping at Manning Park. This is a 2.5 hours’ drive so we need to leave early. We are asking that scouts miss their afternoon classes and come to the church directly after morning classes get out. We hope to pack and depart by 1pm. We ask that scouts pack a lunch to eat along the way. We will arrive at camp in time to set up tents and cook our dinner.

On the return trip Sunday, we will stop at the Chilliwack rec centre for a swim. Everyone should pack a bathing suit and towel! We will return to the church around 4pm on Sunday.

I have attached a kit list so you can start packing. For this camp, the key words are warm & dry! Two sleeping bags and two sleeping pads are mandatory. If you are unsure if you have the right equipment or have any questions about gear, please speak with a leader. I invite parents to join us at tomorrow’s meeting in order to hear a winter camp clothing presentation by two of our experienced winter campers Cam & Christian. Please attend from 8:30 to 9:00 pm on Monday, Jan 13.

To give you an idea of what this camp is like, here are photos from last year’s Winter camp .

How can I help? I am glad you asked. We need 3 families to each provide a large bin of firewood. We will need LOTS this weekend in order to stay warm. This can be logs or left overs from a renovation. Either works. And, we need 2 people to each cook up a pot of chili. This will be our Friday night supper. These jobs are VERY important and would be a huge help to the leaders. Please speak to James.
